Due to the similarities between author names and the change in the surnames of the women, researchers due to marriage, or due to differences in the spelling of the names, there are problems in reaching all the publications of an academician collectively. Therefore; in the management of scientific outputs, accurate data cannot be used and the analysis of a writer or an institution of his / her affiliation gives incorrect results. In order to list the studies of a researcher collectively and to use the correct data in the analysis, the identification of academicians has become an obligation.
Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORC-ID), has emerged because of a joint initiative initiated with the support of different publishers and stakeholders. The goal is; by using a single digital identity, and collecting all the research outputs of a researcher under a single account. In addition, ORC-ID provides inter-system communication and provides application development interfaces (API) that provide authentication.
ORC-ID is a non-profit organization dedicated to solving the long-standing name ambiguity problem in scholarly communication by creating a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers and an open, transparent linking mechanism between ORC-ID and other current author identifiers schemes. The ORC-ID itself is a unique, 16-digit identifier expressed as a URL link. i.e. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3973-4664. The ORC-ID URL links to the owner’s profile on the ORC-ID website. To learn more about ORC-ID, you can visit their website.
