The panel discussion titled "Can Digital Twins Replace Librarians?" was organized as part of the 62nd Library Week and held on March 26, 2026, at the Istanbul University Central Library. Our Director of Library Services, Sönmez Çelik, served as a panelist.
As part of Library Week, the Istanbul University Information and Documentation Managers Association organized a meaningful panel discussion hosted by the Istanbul University Central Library. Moderated by Dr. Selçuk Aydin, Head of the Library Diplomacy and Projects Unit at the Istanbul University Library and Documentation Directorate, the discussion titled "Can Digital Twins Replace Librarians?" The discussion addressed the impacts of digital transformation in librarianship, the effects of emerging technologies on information services, and the evolving roles of librarians.
Dr. Sami Çuhadar, Director of the Library and Documentation Department at Istanbul Bilgi University, and Sönmez Çelik, Director of the Library Department at Ibn Haldun University, participated as speakers in the event. The discussion comprehensively evaluated how technological advancements are transforming library practices and the roles that information professionals are assuming in response.
The session was moderated by Dr. Selçuk Aydin, Head of the Library Diplomacy and Projects Unit at the Library and Documentation Directorate of Istanbul University.
The discussion, which addressed both the new opportunities offered by technology and a human-centered approach to librarianship, laid the groundwork for a productive and inspiring exchange of ideas.
