The seminar titled "Libraries and Artificial Intelligence in University Life", held as part of Library Week, celebrating its 62nd anniversary this year, took place with strong attendance. Organized in collaboration with the Başakşehir District Directorate of National Education and hosted by the Ibn Haldun University Library, the event shed light on the transformation of information access processes.
The seminar was presented by Sönmez Çelik, Director of the Library Department at Ibn Haldun University. In his presentation, Çelik addressed the evolving role of libraries in university life and provided a comprehensive assessment of the impact of digitalization on the academic world. He particularly highlighted the transformative effects of artificial intelligence technologies on information access, data management, and research processes.
As part of the program, a library tour was also organized for the students. Participants had the opportunity to closely examine the LibAI Hub and the Rare Books Collection housed within the library. This visit contributed to the students’ firsthand understanding of the opportunities libraries offer, both in terms of technological infrastructure and cultural heritage.
Three students who answered the questions posed during the seminar were presented with gift books. This initiative added an interactive dimension to the event while increasing students’ interest in the subject.
Participants had the opportunity to closely observe the process by which libraries are evolving from mere repositories of information into digital information hubs. Additionally, important insights were shared regarding the future of AI-powered information services and their contributions to academic production.
The event served as a productive platform for understanding the transformation in access to information and collectively evaluating the future vision of libraries. At the end of the seminar, participants shared their views and questions on the topic, engaging in an interactive exchange.
This meaningful event, held as part of Library Week, once again highlighted the importance of libraries in the digital age.
